How they actually work
A cold spark machine heats a fine metal powder and pushes it upward. There is no combustion, no flame, no smoke and no burnt smell. The sparks cool fast enough to be touched, which is where the name comes from.
What that means for your venue
Because there is no flame, many venues that refuse traditional sparklers and pyrotechnics will allow cold sparks. Many, not all. Rob checks with your venue before the day rather than finding out on it.
Where they belong in the night
One or two moments, not a running effect. First dance, grand entrance, or the last song. Used more than that they stop being a moment.
They need ceiling height
The fountain needs clear height above it. A low ceiling is the usual reason a venue says no, and it is worth measuring rather than assuming.
Before you book
What your venue needs to be able to do.
Ask these before the deposit, not on the week of. Every one of them has stopped somebody’s plan at some point.
- Written venue approval. Ask early: some venues need notice for their insurer.
- Clear ceiling height above each unit, and nothing flammable overhead.
- Smoke detectors are not usually an issue because there is no smoke, but a venue may still want them noted.
- A clear floor area around each unit while it is running.
Why the venue call matters
Most of what goes wrong with cold sparks goes wrong before the day: a venue that was never asked, a ceiling that was never measured, an insurer that wanted notice. Rob makes that call with you as part of the booking, not as an afterthought on the night.

What is uplighting, and does it actually change the room?
Uplighting is a set of fixtures placed around the walls that wash the room in one color you choose. It is the single biggest visual difference for the money, because it changes every photograph taken after dark. Rob delivers, places and runs them, which is the part the ship-it-yourself rental companies cannot do.
Are cold spark fountains safe indoors?
They are designed to be. A cold spark fountain uses a heated metal powder rather than pyrotechnics, so there is no flame and no smoke, and the sparks are cool enough to touch. Venues still set their own rules, so Rob checks with yours before the day rather than on it.
