Designed before the day, not on it
You see the design and approve it in advance. There is no version of this that works as a surprise, because the one thing a monogram must get right is the spelling.
Floor or wall, and they read differently
On the dance floor it disappears the moment people dance on it, which is fine if the photographs you want are early. On a wall it stays visible all night. Rob will tell you which your room suits.
Simple designs project best
Fine script and thin serifs lose their edges at a distance. Initials and a clean typeface read from across a room; an intricate crest often does not.
Before you book
What your venue needs to be able to do.
Ask these before the deposit, not on the week of. Every one of them has stopped somebody’s plan at some point.
- A clear projection throw: a line of sight from the fixture to the surface that guests will not walk through all night.
- A wall or floor light enough in color to take the projection, and dark enough in the room for it to show.
- Power at the fixture position.
Book it with the lighting
A monogram competes with everything else lighting the same surface. Designed alongside the uplighting and the floor lighting, by the people placing both, it lands. Added by a separate vendor on the day, it usually washes out.

What is uplighting, and does it actually change the room?
Uplighting is a set of fixtures placed around the walls that wash the room in one color you choose. It is the single biggest visual difference for the money, because it changes every photograph taken after dark. Rob delivers, places and runs them, which is the part the ship-it-yourself rental companies cannot do.
Are cold spark fountains safe indoors?
They are designed to be. A cold spark fountain uses a heated metal powder rather than pyrotechnics, so there is no flame and no smoke, and the sparks are cool enough to touch. Venues still set their own rules, so Rob checks with yours before the day rather than on it.
